Isaac:
We drove into Iowa pretty late at night so we couldn't visit grandma (so sad). But the next morning we went to her house around lunch time (I know, it took us a long time to get up that morning, 8:49 to be exact. So when we got there, Great Grandma Helen had invited mom's aunt Brenda over to have lunch with all of us. Lunch was died beef on rusk bun, potato salad, a jello-whipped-cream thing, and almond patties for dessert.
After lunch, Aunt Brenda picked up her great-niece and nephew, Logan and Ashley, so they could come swimming with us. The water park was pretty cool! It was right down the way from Grandma's house. It even had a slide. It was actually pretty fun the first time you went down it. Then it got a little boring. But the pool was fun.
After the pool, we spent some time at a small playground nearby. There was a trail that I tried running at. But, boy, was I tired after just a little bit of running not even a quarter mile. I guess I haven't run in a while, since I'm on this four week road trip!
After the park, we walked over to mom's cousin Leslie's house for dinner. We had brats and hot dogs. After dinner, Andrew and I played around in the back yard. You know, normal stuff: throwing a fence post toward the ground, trying to get it to stick, and using an axe to smash a broken bird house. No adults were supervising us!
Late that night, Dad took me and Andrew to a showing of The Incredibles 2. There were no other people in the theatre! It was just the three of us!
The Next Day
We woke up even later, some time around 9:15am. This means we had to hurry to get breakfast, since it closes at 9:30!
We started off the day's events at Dordt College, where mom's parents attended and met each other. We went to the auditorium, to see the organ Grandma used to play. And guess what? Someone was actually playing on it! They were playing Great Is Thy Faithfulness (one of Grandma's favorite hymns). We also checked out the radio station place. We were outside the station, taking pictures, and a guy came out and told us to come inside, to get away from the rain. He showed us around the station, and also introduced us to another guy who turned out to be a classmate of Grandma and Grandpa's. So that was cool!
After that, we went to Casey's Bakery for lunch, which was pretty good! We all filled up, but not too much, because we needed to save up belly room for Pizza Ranch at dinner time (all you can eat Pizza and other food). Then we went to an the All Season's Recreation Center in Sioux Center. The pool in there turned out to be even better than the Orange City pool. There were many slides, basketball hoops, obstacle courses, and mini playhouse things for the small kids.
After a short visit to Grandma's (where we started a card game of Tick), we all went to Pizza Ranch to get our bellies as full and fat as possible. Mission accomplished. Yum!
We ended the day at Grandma's, wrapping up the card game, saying goodbye to everyone, and taking a group photo.
So long Iowa!
